Personality: To understand Ruby, you must first understand Red. A supposed orphan raised by her overbearing grandmother, Red grew up willful and longing to be free of the little village she lives in cut off from all the rest of the Enchanted Forest, but trapped, due to the wolf that stalks the night. She is raised wrapped in insecurity and fear, and only after meeting Snow White does she learn to rise to her own, albeit with the horrible consequence of discovering she, in fact, is the wolf tormenting her village. The fear of the wolf within her eventually becomes her strength, and she learns not to be afraid, but to embrace the wolf, and she grows from a scared little girl into a brilliant tracker and one of Snow White's most loyal friends and warriors.

Ruby goes through many changes mirroring those of her true self, learning she's more than the flirty fun girl with an attitude problem, longing to get out and see the world. She grows, and though she begins to discover her sharp sense for finding things, the curse of Storybrooke combined with Ruby's reluctance drive her away from growing too fully into her own person.

Now that the curse is lifted, Ruby is again cursed, with shared memories in the present as flirty, trendy, carefree Ruby, and troubled but kind, worrisome but bold, Little Red. And with the return of magic she's again cursed by her feral side, the wolf within, though with the wolf returns some of that bold freedom she experienced in the Enchanted Forest. It is her ability to embrace the wolf as a part of her that influences the wild part of her persona, and even when human that wild fire for life and thrill of the hunt is evident in her.

She hates the thought of hurting people when under the power of the wolf, but with the strength of the beast she's learned to use it to protect those she cares for. She has no hesitation when fighting for her friends, and she is fiercely loyal to her "pack." Though she doesn't get along with everyone, those who she does accept into her life she accepts quickly, with surprising kindness for someone who looks like she would be cruel just for fun.

Though she's been betrayed in the past, and hurt, and made to do terrible things, she is no less loving or sincere, and she welcomes people into her life with open arms, showing a remarkable resilience to the things she's been through, as much as those first few accidental deaths torture her still.

Powers/Abilities: Ruby is a werewolf, which means for the three days of the full moon (called wolfstime in the Enchanted Forest) every month she transforms into a large black wolf. As the wolf she is much larger than a normal wolf, really more the size of a great dane, and she has the speed, strength, hearing, sight, and smell expected of a wolf. She used to black out when she turned, but after some conditioning by help from her mother, she learned to embrace the mind frame of the animal, and now is able to keep her mind together, even while transformed, though this does have the drawback of making her overall frame of thinking a little more "wild."

She does have higher endurance as a wolf, but for the most part can be injured or even killed while transformed. Though minor injuries will heal themselves when she becomes human again, anything fatal will not disappear, in fact she'll shift back to human if a fatal wound is inflicted while in wolf form. It's mostly a matter of her being so damn fast that she can wreck an entire party of hunters before they even have the chance to fight back that makes the wolf such a terrifying creature.

It is, however much easier to kill her as a human. When she's a human she's just as vulnerable as any other, though the wolf is still with her even outside of wolfstime. She has very keen eyesight, as well as sharp hearing and a great sense of smell, which makes her a naturally effective hunter, and very helpful for locating missing things. Her speed, strength, and agility are also slightly enhanced, but merely a ghost of what she has when she is transformed.

Possessions: Her enchanted red hood (it allows her to remain in human form during wolfstime), an obscene amount of kitschy jewelry, and a very bohemian-meets-punk rock style outfit.

Uh, hello? Can... Can anybody hear me? I don't really know if this thing is even on right. Just kind of hit random numbers and hoped for the best.

David? Belle? I'd ask for Granny but I'm still teaching her how to use her crappy nokia flip, I don't think she'll get the handle of an open broadcast network ever.

Is this another Realm? Oh who was that guy...

[there's a snap of fingers that's faint, before her voice is loud again]

Jefferson! I don't think I got here by magic, but if I did, maybe he's around! Hey! Anyone know a weird guy with a top hat?

...If anyone is even listening to this, which they're probably not. Guess I better start walking.

Log Sample:

The few days after Wolfstime was always a bit of a slog for her, but even in a grouchy haze she would have noticed wandering onto the set of some bad sci-fi film. After waking in the pod Ruby scrambled for her possessions, most important the red cloak she'd finally been reunited with after being under Regina's curse for so long. With the warmth of the cloak around her, some of the clarity of the situation returns, and she steps around the odd interior with her brow knit together.

"Hello?" she calls out in a slightly shaky voice, trying to force more gusto into it than she feels. Everything smells wrong, here. Nothing of the sweet earthy smell of Storybrooke, or even her home of the Enchanted Forest. She thinks she can hear someone, lurking somewhere out of sight, but the sounds within the ship echo strangely, messing with her hearing. Without really thinking about it, she follows the lights in her way, slowing to a crawl every time she thinks she hears something, or catches a whiff of something else. Ultimately, nothing lurches from the shadows at her, and she emerges into the open.

"Oh... holy shit." Granny would smack her for cursing, but standing at the top of a ramp and looking out at the barren wasteland, looking like old photographs of Hiroshima she'd seen in history books. The smells that hit her afterwards were a mix of alien and vaguely-familiar, but altogether, not welcome.

They'd been trying to find a way to jump from Realm to Realm to find Snow White and Emma, but... This wasn't the Enchanted Forest. She'd never been to this place before, and something told her, it wouldn't be as easy as jumping in a magic hat to get home again.
